VSS RACES SPRING SERIES

VSS RACES SPRING SERIES

VSS Race Day Saturday, 4/13

This is a reminder that the next VSS race day is Saturday.  The drill is as usual, skippers’ meeting at Higel Park at 1100 and the start at 1300, with luck.  If conditions warrant we will have two races.  The skippers’ meeting is a good place to catch a ride or to pick up needed crew.

Mark “D” vanished and has now been replaced by mark “E”, which was placed where “D” was earlier this season, so the equilateral triangle has now been restored.  There are some new courses added which we may use.  There is also a new Start Time matrix to go along with the courses, and it and the courses are attached

As of now, Thursday evening, the SailFlow forecast looks great, 8-12 knots from the south, cloudy with temps in the mid 70s.  JAPSDIP

Come on out and have some fine sailing!

Cheers,

John

We went to the Sarasota Sailing Squadron for a SBYABOTY race last Sunday.  Fruition was the only other Venice boat there, and she was sailing in the Spinnaker Class.  The forecast was for very light wind, but the reality was just dandy, with a nice southerly at about 8 knots with gusts into the mid teens.

There was a miserable turnout (though better than most others recently) with 22 PHRF boats in four classes.  All the PHRF boats started together using Rule 26 signals and flags, but the Spinnaker and Non-Spinnaker boats sailed a 7-leg windward-leeward mixed with triangles course of 6.5 nm length, we (Spray), in the Cruiser Class as well as the Pocket Cruiser fleet, sailed the first 5-legs with the Spinnaker/Non-Spinnaker fleet and then sail a couple of shorter legs for a total of 5.3.nm.

VSS COURSE CHANGES

VSS COURSE CHANGES

The Course has changed and you must change the mark positions in your GPS!

We are beginning to install the new marks so the course has been squared up and returned to its original dimensions and equilateral triangular shape.  We have left the mark I have been calling “Irma” in its most recent position but adjusted “Maria” (now called “South” on the chart but soon to become “A”) and “S-F” (will keep that name).  A new chart is attached as “Chart” and you should correct the positions of “South” and “S-F” to be those shown on the chart.  “Irma” and “North” should already be the same.  As you can see there are two other new marks that make up a larger (9 nm around) triangle and it is planned to install two new marks there soon but they will not be used right away.

VSS RACES SAT NOV 10

VSS RACES SAT NOV 10

This is to remind you that our nex race day is Saturday, tomorrow, November 10th.

The format will be the same as it was last season and in October.  We only have one buoy left after the recent storms (Maria disappeared after Michael) so I hope to be able to replace Maria with an inflatable before Saturday’s races.  Rolf Hahn checked the position of Irma and found it to be within a couple of boat lengths of its posted position.   I Have attached the details of the course, start times for the boats I know of and other information that you may need.
