BECOME A MEMBER

Venice Sailing Squadron (VSS) membership is open to all sailors and those aspiring to be sailors.  Boat ownership is not a prerequisite for membership.  There are opportunities to join a sailing crew and get out on the water, even if you do not have your own boat. And you get to hang out with other sailors!

The VSS is a volunteer-run sailing and social club located in Venice Florida, on the breezy shores of the Gulf of Mexico.  As part of our mission to promote sailing in the community, we offer a varied program of local cruising, racing, social events and educational programs. The club also participates in regional racing via active membership in the Sarasota Bay Yachting Association.  The VSS is a registered US Sailing sailing club. As such we practice and encourage stewardship to our environment and maintain a standard of conduct on the water.

Club member benefits include a monthly potluck dinner meeting with an educational sailing topic, organized cruising, racing, picnics, dock parties, ladies luncheons, monthly newsletters, a membership directory and other club/inter-club activities.  The club is also active in the community's many local activities such as the Sun Fiesta, Blalock Park Christmas tree decorations, the Venice Boat Parade and many other activities.  In December the club hosts a more formal dinner/dance.  Awards recognizing cruising and sailing achievements are presented at the end-of-season Change of Watch (COW) picnic in May, when we also hold the annual "Gutter Boat" regatta. 

Annual dues are $100.00 for a family membership that includes all members of a household.  VSS Memberships start on September 1 each year and expire on August 31 of the following year.  Memberships prepaid from June 1st will expire at the end of the following August.  We will be open for new Membership Applications from the 1st June 2024.
